Opinions of animated videos

Ed Sheeran- Lego House

Lyrical link

'I'm gunna put your picture on the wall'- This is a eprfect example of Illustration, where Ed is hanging the picture on the wall whilst he is singing about it.
'i'm gunna pick up the pieces and build a lego house'. This is quite signifiant becasue we can see the piecec of the legos at the background. This could imply that somehting has happened tha mirrored 'his world falling apart' and explaining so by using lego seems to be easier for Ed. By the way he said that he going to build a 'lego house' could suggest the he is going to try and put the pieces back together, but it would have to remain in a 'lego' version, almost as he was afraid of he hurt again- becasue lego is finctional, it doesn't hurt so much.
This close up shot of Ed looking at memories with 'himself' in a different version could suggest that he is in a different world to what he sued to be in. Especially as he thinks that the 'ME' character in the book is actually him, when it is not. This could imply confusion and unstability, almost as if he couldn't get out.

Amplification, Illustration and disjuncture

Illustration
llustration is the simplest and easiest concept to base a music video around as it is just a literal meaning to the song’s lyrics in visual form.
Example:

 'Slowly'

'They've tried to teach me how to dance'

Amplification
Amplification is closely related to disjuncture, but amplification is just the enhancement of a concept while still retaining a link to it, this technique works brilliantly in marketing and advertising the band in question. However, it will not work for us as our concept for the video bears no resemblance at all to the song, so it would not work as amplification does.

Disjuncture

Disjuncture is the idea of basically completely ignoring the song’s meaning or concept completely and instead, create a whole new set of meanings or images that can be put to the song, a perfect example of this would be Can’t stop by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The idea of disjuncture works excellently with our video as the concept we have for the video has no relation to the song or its meaning in any way.

Our chosen song

P!nk!

"So What"
Na na na na na na na na na na na na [x2]
I guess I just lost my husband,
I don't know where he went,
So I'm gonna drink my money,
I'm not gonna pay his rent,
I got a brand new attitude and
I'm gonna wear it tonight,
I wanna get in trouble,
I wanna start a fight,
na na na na na na na I wanna start a fight,
na na na na na na na I wanna start a fight.

So, so what
I'm still a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
And now that we’re done,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
I'm just fine,
And you're a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight.

(Uh check my flow, aw)
The waiter just took my table,
And gave it to Jessica Simps (shit!),
I guess I'll go sit with drum boy,
At least he'll know how to hit,
What if this song's on the radio,
then somebody's gonna die,
I'm gonna get in trouble,
My ex will start a fight,
na na na na na na na he's gonna start a fight,
na na na na na na na we're all gonna get in a fight!

So, so what
I'm still a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
And now that we’re done,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
I'm just fine,
And you're a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight

You weren't there,
You never were,
You want it all,
But that's not fair,
I gave you life,
I gave my all,
You weren't there,
You let me fall.

So, so what
I'm still a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
And now that we’re done,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
I'm just fine,
And you're a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight

No, no, no, no
I don't want you tonight,
You weren't there,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
And you're a tool,
And your a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight!

I have also taken an insiration from the Jaws film, to show more intertextuality in our prelim.

These are just a handfull of the screen shots that we are going to be working with. .....

Instead of these faceless pictures, there are going to be faces of Laura, me and Shannon. We are going to need a Mac computer to be able to work on photoshop to be able to do this.

We also had an idea where we could use the green screen for some if these backgrounds, to make it more of our own and more interesting.

Performance aspects
Gives the audience a crowd to give the member's point of view shot

Disclosure- Latch

Narrative
-Conventional video becasue we cannot see them playing any instruments, but has a good narrative story. There is a relation to the lyrics ('we are close enough') we can hear these lyrics when the two people get close together.

Camera work
MId shot of two poeple kissing could suggest the close sorroundings that are in, but at the same time it keeps the distance from the camera. The inclosed atmosphere helps to see what is going on because there is nothing interrupting them.
The close up shot is maintained with all the couples kissing, at the same time as if they were interlinked together.

The album links to this video beacause of the lines on their faces appear in both the video and the cover.
