How effective is the combination of your main
product and the ancillary task?
These are our completed digipak and magazine advert.
They work together, because they have some images in common, in order for
people to recognise both and thus buy both. The purpose of magazine ad/digipak
is to help to sell the album and buy keeping the same theme; it is easier to look
for in the shops or on-line. It also provides us with a picture of the lead
singers, which will identify the genre of this song. The leaves and the tree
focus on the narrative in the music promo, making the digipak easily
recognisable for those who have already seen the music video and would like to
buy the ancillary. Therefore each product helps to promote the other. We have
created a band identity because we have linked all the images together, so that
it should be easy for audience to recognise us.
Also, the
writing between the magazine advert and the digipak are the same, creating a
memorable link between the two ancillaries.
Exhibition
The digipak will be
seen mainly in the music shops as a tangible product. The magazine advert will also
be seen as a tangible product in a magazine. It could also be seen as and
downloaded on-line as an artwork. This method would probably get the band more
recognised. This could be beneficial because lots of people like to read
magazines and there are people out there that like to go to the shops and see
something before they buy it. They are both of traditional media, and therefore
it may not bring that much attention to (especially young) people’s eyes. However,
the New Media consists of YouTube, iTunes, Facebook etc., and these are
extremely popular ways of advertising especially between young people. For
example, a simple video on YouTube can get more views and likes than in a
magazine and this is mainly because YouTube is for free and also, it is accessible
from every device, anywhere.
I would choose
Kiss music channel to broadcast our music video. This is because kiss itself
targets the same audience as our music video. It is also broadcasts a wide
variety of music promo and thus it is not focused on one genre.
I would
advertise our magazine cover in a magazine called Q. This is because this
magazine advertises and focuses on a variety of genres from pop to folk and
rock. It is aimed at our target market (audience 15+).
